Research Scientist Senior

Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the Laboratory including but not limited to operational management, quality assurance, staffing, workflows, timekeeping, technician training, equipment maintenance, vendor agreements, etc. Utilize knowledge of animal handling, molecular and cellular biology to conduct and oversee laboratory projects.
Partners with the Administrator and Department Administrator to consult on areas for improvement, compliance, financial performance, marketing initiatives, strategic planning, etc.
Job Responsibilities:
· Manages the day-to-day operations of the Laboratory.
· Supervision of lab staff to include students, as directed by the PI to include making work assignments, establishing work schedules, timecard/time report approval.
· Assigns responsibilities, establishes schedules, and monitors staff use of time including vacation and sick time.
· Prepare daily laboratory workflow logs.
· Appropriately trains staff including “cross-training” in other areas of the laboratory to ensure appropriate knowledge, skill set and coverage ofall areas within the laboratory. Maintains comprehensive training records.
· Evaluate staff, including interviewing perspective candidates conducting performance evaluations, investigating and documenting disciplinary actions, identifying areas for improvement and identifying or devising programs necessary for staff development and enhancing the capabilities of the laboratory. Coordinates in-service training for all laboratory staff.
· Develops and implements laboratory operating policies and procedures including the laboratory’s quality control program and adheres to regulatory requirements. Maintains relevant records consistent with regulatory standards
· Participate in cost control activities by seeking the most effective method of conducting research for the projects in the laboratory.
· Works in conjunction with appropriate staff to prepare reports and oversee all laboratory documentation.
· Provided coverage for lab staff as needed.
· Assist with special lab projects or other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
Minimum Degree Requirements
Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.).
Other Credential/Experiential Requirements: 10+ years of postdoctoral experience conducting scientific research. Multiple publications and notable significant contributions to scientific research.
